Procedure:
Dissolve 0.5 g of the sample in 50 mL of water.
Add 5 mL of sulfuric acid solution and heat gently.
Observation: A characteristic odor of formic acid should be released.
2. Identification of Feed additive calcium formate Calcium Ion
Procedure:
Dissolve 0.5 g of the sample in 50 mL of water.
Add 5 mL of ammonium oxalate solution.
Observation: A white precipitate forms.
Further Testing:
The precipitate is insoluble in glacial acetic acid but soluble in hydrochloric acid.
