Due to the strong hydrogen bonding of its ester group, it has advantages such as good chemical stability and weather resistance, so it is widely introduced into waterborne polyurethanes for modification. Zhu Xiaolian et al. from Jinan University used Hydroxypropyl Acrylate HPA and its esters as a coupling agent between polyurethane and polyacrylate to synthesize polyacrylate-modified waterborne polyurethane (PU–AC) emulsion. Because it has a double bond and a hydroxyl group, the hydroxyl group can react with the isocyanate group (NCO) of the waterborne polyurethane (PU) prepolymer, and its double bond can undergo free radical copolymerization with acrylate (AC) monomer to obtain a PU–AC emulsion with chemical bonds between waterborne polyurethane and acrylate. Chen used Hydroxypropyl Acrylate HPA as a chain extender to prepare waterborne polyacrylate emulsions with different water resistance ratios. The experiment explored the effects of different contents of Hydroxypropyl Acrylate HPA on the rotational viscosity and peel strength of pressure-sensitive adhesive PUA. Industrially, leveraging its property of copolymerizing with other acrylic monomers to form acrylic resins, it can also be used in dental materials, photosensitive imaging materials, and more.
